Student Assistance Program

This program provides prevention and early intervention services to adolescents and their families in the middle and high schools in Winchester City, Clarke and Frederick Counties through support groups, education, substance abuse assessments, and referral services.

School-Based Support Groups

The Student Assistance Program (SAP) provides prevention and early intervention services to adolescents and their families through school-based support groups.  These groups are offered in the middle and high schools in Frederick, Clarke Counties and Winchester City.

Schools are the setting for the majority of SAP's efforts.  School-based support groups meet weekly with two trained adult facilitators to talk about shared concerns and problems.  Students who may be interested in participating in a support group should contact their guidance counselor or contact CLEAN, Inc.

At CLEAN, Inc., we believe that education, prevention and early intervention are essential for developing healthy lifestyle choices, coping skills and increasing an awareness of the risks associated with alcohol or drug use.

Substance Abuse Assessments

A substance abuse assessment is made available within the community and provides support for adolescents who wish to receive help with substance abuse issues.  An assessment is completed by a youth who has people in his/her life that may be concerned about their alcohol or other drug use.

The purpose of the assessment is to determine the extent of an adolescent’s substance use, which may impact personal, social, legal and academic areas of their life.

The assessment takes about two hours and includes an interview and completion of up to four written screening tools.  These screenings are used in order to obtain an objective overview of the extent of the teen’s substance use and identify risk areas that may be present within their life.

After the assessment, the screenings are scored and recommendations are made by a clinical team at CLEAN, Inc. A meeting is scheduled with the teen and parents to review all outcomes, answer any questions and provide referral information if needed.
